We've been on a bit of a hiatus when it comes to apparel running through the online shop. Good news - new apparel will be arriving soon. We'll start with a few of the CrossFit Central classics and then move into some cooler gear, just in time for summer.
For starters - check out the new "Hollow At Me" tanks and tees with Chelsea McKinney. These are in a very limited quantity, but more options are on the way. Stay tuned.
Brandon Mayernik doesn't always talk a lot, but he certainly makes his presence known. In just over half a year, Brandon has become a pillar amongst the CrossFit Central competitors. After spending 4 years in the Marines, Brandon made his way to Austin to begin college. Just 23 years old, he began CrossFitting a mere 8 months ago. In those few months his strength and skill gains have been unmatched. His first coach, Big Mike says it best:
"I know he is hungry and motivated. He wakes up with excitement to choose the day and make it his own! He sees the possibilities and starts chasing them down without fear. The idea of not being able to do it is nonexistent."
This month, Brandon will play an integral role on the CrossFit Central Team at the CrossFit Games South Central Regionals. To help fund Brandon's participation and trip to competition, we have created Team Mayernik t-shirts. All proceeds from the shirts will go directly to Brandon.
Team Mayernik shirts come in both men's and women's styles. They will be available at CrossFit Central, Wednesday, May 22nd.
Chelsea entered the 2013 CrossFit Games Open having never qualified for Regionals as an individual competitor. Each week, she fought for a spot at the top of the leaderboard. Going into the last workout, 13.5, Chelsea knew in order to ensure an invitation to Regionals Chelsea had to get an outstanding score on the workout. Luckily, it involved one of her specialties, pull ups. Chelsea's first attempt at the workout gave her a score 87. She left feeling uneasy, not sure if she would ultimately place in the top 48 women in the South Central Region. Chelsea decided to take on the workout a second time. Driven by a strong desire to help the RedBlack Team get a boost on the leaderboard, Chelsea brought everything she had to the workout. Incredibly, she smacked 13.5 in the face and increased her score by 51 reps!
Help support Chelsea in her advancement to the 2013 CrossFit Games South Central Regional competition by wearing a special edition Chelsea Ross t-shirt. All proceeds go directly to Chelsea to help fund her trip.
Ingrid is no stranger to overcoming adversity. In the Spring of 2010 this former Division One, All-American pole vaulter stood atop the 2010 Southern California Sectionals podium. In the following months she started feeling sick. At first Ingrid thought she might have the flu, but her symptoms continued to get worse. After multiple trips to the doctor they discovered that Ingrid had a bacterial heart infection and needed urgent open-heart surgery. In May 2010 she underwent surgery, lost over 20lbs, was in ICU for 6 days and spent the following 8 weeks post-surgery under doctor's orders to walk, but nothing more. On week 9 Ingrid experienced her first CrossFit workout post-surgery. And in 2011 placed 6th at Regionals.
In her 5th season competing, Ingrid is poised for greatness. 2012 marked the 4th year Ingrid would qualify to compete at Regionals, but fell just shy of making it to The CrossFit Games with a 5th Place finish. After a year of focused training, Ingrid is ready to show the world exactly what she is made of in 2013!!!
In 2012, Lisa Bender Thiel was primed to truly compete as an individual in the CrossFit Games Open and beyond. Her body was in the best shape of her life and her mind had finally decided that she was in fact, an athlete. Just two weeks before the CrossFit Games Open began, Lisa discovered 2012 would not be her year for competition after all. Three months pregnant, Lisa completed the Open WODs but of course was not in true competition mode.
As the 2013 CrossFit Games Open approached, Lisa, now the mother of a five month old boy, was faced with a decision....compete as an individual or sit on the sidelines for the second year in a row. With the support of her husband and CrossFit Central community, she decided to go full speed ahead, accepting that she could compete as an athlete, an individual, a wife and a new mother.
"I've always competed in a way that kept my performance relative to those around me - now I have no preconceived notion of where I 'should' fall so I can just 'do me'. I look at this year and know that I will finally fulfill MY potential - it may not be the 'potential' I had going into 2012 but I will fulfill Lisa Bender Thiel's 2013 potential."
Help support Lisa in her trip to the South Central Regionals. Place your name on the pre-order form below, to ensure you will have an LBT shirt of your own! All proceeds go directly to Lisa to help fund her trip to Regionals and of course child care for the weekend!
